Medical device manufacturing often depends on components that are extremely small but have very demanding material requirements. Tight tolerances, controlled mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and consistent performance can all influence how successfully a component moves from development into production.
This September, Avocet Precision Metals will be heading to Galway for Medical Technology Ireland Expo and Conference 2026, where we will be exhibiting alongside our partners from Ulbrich of Austria.
Taking place on 23–24 September 2026 at Galway Racecourse, the event brings together companies from across the medical device design and manufacturing industry. We are looking forward to meeting engineers, manufacturers and procurement teams to discuss the precision metal requirements behind their current and future medical applications.
What Avocet Precision Metals Will Be Discussing in Galway
Our presence at Medical Technology Ireland will focus on precision metal products used across a variety of medical devices and components.
Working with Ulbrich gives us access to specialist manufacturing capabilities across precision strip, foil and wire, allowing us to support customers with requirements that can be difficult to source through standard material supply routes.
Products and applications we will be discussing at the show include:
- Medical braid and coil wire
- Fine and flat wire
- Shaped wire and specialist profiles
- Precision strip and foil
- Materials for surgical instruments
- Materials for medical implants
- Precision metals for bellows applications
- Specialist alloys for demanding medical components
The correct material solution will depend heavily on the design and manufacturing process, which is why we encourage customers to speak to us about the application rather than simply starting with a material grade.
Medical Braid and Coil Wire for Catheter Applications
Catheter manufacturing is one area where very fine metallic components can have a significant influence on finished-device performance. Ulbrich produces precision braid and coil reinforcement wire for applications including braided catheters and shafts, coiled shafts, micro-catheters, EP catheters and vascular catheters.
These products can be supplied in fine, flat, round and shaped wire forms across a range of specialist alloys, giving medical device designers greater flexibility when developing components requiring specific mechanical characteristics. For manufacturers working on catheter systems, our team can help discuss requirements including alloy selection, wire form, dimensions and supply as a project develops.
Precision Materials for Surgical Instruments and Components
Medical instruments can place very different demands on their materials depending on their function.
Some applications require high hardness and strength, while others may prioritise corrosion resistance or non-magnetic properties. Ulbrich’s medical portfolio includes stainless steel and specialist alloy solutions used for products such as surgical needles, staples, stapler components, clamps and other precision instruments. Rather than treating every medical application in the same way, we work with customers to understand the requirements of the finished component and identify material options suited to its manufacture and intended performance.
Supporting Bellows and Other Precision Medical Assemblies
Bellows present another demanding application for precision metals.
Repeated flexing, welding requirements, tight dimensional tolerances and exposure to challenging environments can all place considerable demands on the material. Ulbrich supplies precision strip coil for bellows manufacturers in several industries, including medical applications, with a focus on properties such as formability, weldability and fatigue performance. For manufacturers producing precision medical assemblies, consistency in material thickness, width and edge condition can make a meaningful difference to both production efficiency and finished-component reliability.
From Early Development to Production Supply
Medical device development rarely begins with large production volumes. Engineers may initially need to evaluate different alloys, dimensions or material conditions before committing to a final specification. Once the design progresses, priorities can shift towards consistency, repeatability and dependable ongoing supply.
At Avocet Precision Metals, we aim to support customers throughout these different stages.
Our role is not simply to provide a coil or spool of material. We work with customers to understand what they are trying to manufacture, the difficulties they may currently be experiencing and the characteristics their material needs to provide. That could mean helping source a specialist alloy, identifying the appropriate wire form, achieving tighter dimensional tolerances or finding a more dependable route for an existing requirement.
Meet Us at Medical Technology Ireland
Medical Technology Ireland provides an ideal opportunity to discuss these requirements face-to-face.
If you’re developing catheters, surgical instruments, implants, bellows or another medical component that depends on precision metal strip, foil or wire, come and meet Avocet Precision Metals and Ulbrich of Austria at the show. Whether you’re at the early stages of a new development or looking to resolve a material or supply challenge within an existing programme, we’d be pleased to learn more about your application and discuss how we can support it.
